Governance of Volunteering Victoria: Message from ourĀ Board

This month has been another busy month in an already big year for us, culminating last week with our fourth annual State Awards.

Every year, I have been impressed with the calibre of finalists and winners and this time around, I have had the privilege to be on the judging panel. After reviewing the nomination forms, I have gained a renewed level of insight into the quality, depth and breadth of the work done by volunteers and those employed to support them. Congratulations to all the nominees, finalists and winners!

Being involved in the Awards is a great opportunity to connect with our members. We, as the board, are always keen to hear about how our work impacts and supports you. After our Annual General Meeting (AGM), we took the opportunity to reflect on the feedback we received, review the member survey results and results of the workshop conducted after the event. Our goal was to seek member insight into our strategic pillars and understanding what they mean for you.

As a result, we developed a comprehensive plan, which will be published through our networks, shortly. In the meantime, we are keen to continue the dialogue with our member around how we can deliver most effectively on our strategic pillars.

Realising the incredible work done in so different sectors reinforces the responsibility we hold. As a Board, not only are we accountable for setting strategy and managing risk, we continue to review and develop on our own performance. To that end, we have started to create a Board performance review plan, which will be undertaken in the new year. Increasing our efforts in diversity and inclusion are some of our key findings that require greater focus. Developing and implementing inclusion principles will also be a focus for the Board in 2019.

Finally, as the year draws to a close, I hope you will have the opportunity to rest and recharge in preparation for a successful 2019.
