International Volunteer Managers Day (IVMD) celebrates the important role Volunteer Managers play in making our communities resilient, inclusive and sustainable. This year’s theme What is Excellence? Pushing us Beyond the Ordinary reflects upon what excellence means in volunteer leadership.
“We recognize that effective volunteering does not happen in a vacuum. That is why we celebrate International Volunteer Managers Day every year on 5 November,” says Scott Miller, Chief Executive of Volunteering Victoria.
Initiated in 1999, the day puts a spotlight on Volunteer Managers as key figures in volunteer-involving organisations and aims to provide stimulating debate on different aspects of what constitutes ‘excellence in volunteer management’. These include:
- Volunteer leadership
- Diversity and equity
- Managing up
- Meaningful engagement
- Embracing technology and systems
“This year, we encourage everyone to celebrate the excellence of their Leaders of Volunteers by making a submission to one of the many categories at the 2021 Volunteering Awards,” adds Miller.
