This not-for-profit organisation supports people who the community who need a little extra assistance to continue to live independently – including aged or frail people and people living with disabilities.
It is growing at a rapid rate as demand for Home and Community Care (HACC) services grow, but it can sometimes be a struggle to recruit enough volunteers to keep up.
The Meals on Wheels Program alone relies on 400 dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. Freshly cooked meals are prepared, packaged and picked up from surrounding local hospital kitchens such as Cobram, Nathalia, Numurkah and Yarrawonga.
It’s up to the team of volunteers to deliver the meals seven days a week, along with a daily chat and check in to make sure everyone remains connected to the community.
“Our success as an outstanding community organisation would not be possible without the dedication of our Meals On Wheels team of more than 400 volunteers. Our volunteers change people’s lives and support them to live independently. We simply could not do without their support” says Lorraine Northeast, MHA Care Volunteer Co-ordinator.
